THE BIG READ

Bell Arts Factory launched a month-long promotion of reading in partnership with Ventura County Libraries and the City of Ventura Cultural Affairs Division. A grant from the National Endowment of the Arts supports this community-wide initiative designed to restore reading to the center of American culture.

Rudolfo Anaya's book, Bless Me, Ultima, is the book selected and it is the story of a young boy growing up in Guadalupe, New Mexico. Juan's story deals with facing new experiences and conflicts as he enters school and faces the challenges of a young person.

Representatives from libraries, schools, community groups and arts organizations will participate in this October series of events such as book discussion groups, a drumming circle, and a Spanish reading by Teatro de las Americas.
